What is the American Optometric Association (AOA)?

Established in 1898, the American Optometric Association , is a national advocate for eye health and quality care, representing 44,000 doctors of optometry (O.D.), optometry professionals, and students of optometry. In the United States, optometrists provide more than two-thirds of primary eye care.

What is the Vision Rehabilitation Committee of the AOA?

Dr. Ikeda was appointed to the American Optometric Association Vision Rehabilitation Committee and to the Traumatic Brain Injury Task Force.He is starting another term this year. His goal is to support fellow optometrists in their efforts to share information on what members of his committee do in terms of neuro optometric rehabilitation. In order to share the word of the work they do, he works alongside educators, clinical practitioners or private practitioners.

Mission of AOA

The AOA fulfills its missions based on the following goals:

  • Optometrists will be recognized as primary health care providers and the public will have access to the full scope of optometric services
  • In order to enhance and ensure competent, quality patient care, optometrists and other professionals look to the American Optometric Association for standards of professional conduct, research, and education leadership.
  • AOA provides reliable and current information about optometry, eye care, and health care policy to the public, optometrists, and other professionals.
